Goya awards nomination

A Esmorga has a nomination on Best adapted Script category for Ignacio Vilar and Carlos Asorey.

The film continues to make history, beginning to the first long film recorded in Galician language and getting a nomination for that prestigious award.

Total Audience success on Premiere

“A Esmorga” was the second highest grossing film in Spain in its premiere weekend.

The movie has been watched by 40,000 spectators and is still in theaters eight weeks later.

The biggest opening ever of the year in Spain between films with fewer than 100 copies (only 18 copies).

It is a tense and intense twenty-four hour chronicle in the life of three middle-aged men, drinking fellows, who go leaving a trail of destruction, of neglected and repressed sex, closing the doors behind them and throwing away the keys, as if they did not want to go back, as if they knew they were walking towards their own perdition on purpose.

Cibrán

A man of weak character who can easily follow trouble, a victim of some kind of depression that’s activated with weather conditions. He is the most conscious of the three men, achieving some class conciousness and being able to identify society patterns.

Miguel de Lira

Mestre Mateo Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2013 (Somos gente honrada, Alejandro Marzoa), Miguel de Lira is one of the most well-known actors in Galicia nowadays. He has a long career in theater too where he has earned critical and commercial success and has also starred in many Galician and Spanish movies: No habrá paz para los malvados (Enrique Urbizu), La noche que dejó de llover (Alfonso Zarauza).

In A Esmorga, he plays the role of Cibrán, who narrates this 24- hour story in the streets of Auria.

Bocas

He is a wolfsbane, as immoral as Milhomes but with a necessity to experience power and also a delirium to achieve unique experiences which does not happen to his fellow.

Karra Elejalde

Goya Award winner for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 2010 (También la lluvia, Itzíar Bollaín), Karra Elejalde is one of the most renowned and well – regarded actors in Spanish cinema. Featured in films of Julio Medem (Vacas, La ardilla roja, Tierra), Juanma Bajo Ulloa (La madre muerta, Airbag), Alex de la Iglesia (Acción Mutante) Alejandro González Iñárritu (Biutiful). He is also co – starring in one of the highest – grossing Spanish films: 8 apellidos vascos (Emilio Martínez-Lázaro), premiered with extraordinary success in March, 2014.

In A Esmorga, he plays the role of Bocas – the real motor of the action -, a character with multiple shades that Elejalde enlarges and manages to bring closer to the spectator, demonstrating with extraordinary virtuosity his spectacular acting skills.

Milhomes

He lives his homosexuality in the only possible way he can in a world dominated by homofobia everywhere around him.

Antonio Durán ‘Morris’

He is one of the great actors in the Galician film and TV landscape, also a theater actor with leading roles in some of the most succesful productions of Televisión de Galicia. His performance in feature films such as Doentes (Gustavo Balza), Retornos (Luis Avilés) or El menor de los males (Antonio Hernández) is outstanding.
